Day 1 of my new health journey started with the GM Diet. If you have never heard of the GM Diet it is a diet designed by the General Motors Corporation to help their employees lose weight and establish good eating habits. The diet is designed to eat specific foods over a seven day period. If followed, you can see a 10 to 15 lbs weight loss result.
I did this diet for the first time about a year ago and dropped from 218 lbs to 207 lbs in a week. Today I weighed in at 218 again and wanted to jump start my new weight loss and fitness journey by doing the GM diet once again. My thinking is that while I am not into fad diets, this one week diet program to drop 10 lbs and see results actually works. I personally experienced it myself a year ago, we will see where I end up this year on day 7.
The key to a successful week is staying hydrated and drinking 8 – 10 glasses of water each day. I also cut all the creamer out of my coffee and drank it black and of course with no sugar. After a week with black coffee you acquire a new taste for it and find yourself not going back to the creamers.
Day 1 of the GM Diet
Fruit – You can eat as much fruit as you need to get through the day… but only fruit! No bananas. Apples, pears, oranges, grapes, melons, and pineapple are my favorites for the day.
Water – 8 to 10 glasses of water
Coffee – black with NO cream or sugar
So how did it go for me? Well, I started the day by getting up and going for a run/walk. I have only ran once over the past six months and given today was the start of my new journey I wanted to get a run in. I can also tell you that from prior experience you will feel weak and probably hungry at the end of the day. I would not feel like running after work so I set my alarm for 6am and forced myself out of bed and to the driveway. Being so out of shape I knew it would be tough so I only focused on making it 1 mile and of course walking when I needed.
My result: 1.08 miles in 15 min 8 seconds for an average pace of 14 min a mile. I had to walk a little there at the end of my 1 mile journey but hey… I did it.
It’s now 10pm and I am feeling a bit weak and a dull headache. Time for bed to sleep it off… day 1 is the hardest and now in the bucket.
